The concept was to feature a gay, male elopement couple with bold, unique suits with masculine + bold décor elements. Pretty much details you typically don’t see in the mainstream bridal world. Plus, all the vendors involved are black. This was intentional because like gay weddings, we are underrepresented in the industry too.
The Grooms, Lamont + Art, are a real-life couple that I know personally. I wanted the vibe to be super authentic and natural, so I opted to feature an everyday couple instead of models. Plus, at the time of the shoot, they were preparing for their own wedding, so they had an opportunity to go through the process before their big day! Thank you + Congratulations!!
I selected the location because it’s a blank canvas photo studio that colors just come to life in. Plus, it’s my all time favorite space to produce elopements in. The overall design and feel were birthed from the Kente cloth/African print pattern I selected for Art’s suit jacket. I loved that the colors were an introduction to fall without being too obvious.
Lamont + Art wore bespoke suits by Unique Threads. They selected every single detail from the color of the buttons, button holes, jacket liner fabric, number of jacket flaps, down to the pant closure type. I had no idea how many different parts of a suit there are. But, my absolute favorite detail is their stitched names! Having witnessed the entire process, I can attest that it’s extremely simple and affordable. I’m definitely team #BespokeSuit now!
I’m ecstatic about the outcome and I hope it encourages couples to push the envelope. Can we talk about the talented team of professionals? I thank you all again for lending your time, attention, dedication and most importantly, your talent because I couldn’t have done it without you! Everyone’s excitement on set was all the validation I needed to know it was a job well done. You all are an incredible bunch, and I can’t wait to work with you again!
